Photo 2: Purple Candle Lines
Shutter Speed: 10 Seconds
ISO: 3200
Aperture: f/20
In this photo a small candle was moved throughout the space to create a dynamic image of movement with light as the subject. To capture the image and let as much light in as possible, I set the shutter speed for 10 seconds. The light source I used was a small, battery powered candle from my house. It often flickered, creating the solid and dotted line effects. To capture the image, a black sheet was put across the back wall to make a solid, dark background. Then, an aid turned on the candle and moved it around in random patterns and lines. Meanwhile, the camera captured the image and the dynamic movement that was going on. I think with this image, and with any image where painting with light is the subject, the viewer would be shocked and intruigued. The viewer would want to learn how the photo was taken, and maybe how to do it themselves. At least that's how I felt when I saw painting with light photos for the first time.
