In the third photo a slow shutter speed was used because the movement of the subject's face created a blur. This blur was created with a shutter speed of 1/2 second. The ISO was set at 100 and the WB was set at AUTO. In the image, the subject remained perfectly still from the collarbone down. Above, the subject turned their neck and moved their face to create the blur effect in the image. The photo was take straight ahead, right in front of the subject, and very close to them. The color of the subject's glasses add interest to the blur that would not have been present in a black and white version. The black negative space in the background also put focus on subject matter. The pattern of the subject's shirt and the texture of their beads and hair add more interest to the photo.
In the fifth photo a fast shutter speed was used to display movement in the moment and capture detail in her movement. The lack of blur is due to a fast shutter speed of 1/320 second. The ISO was set to 400 and the WB was set at AUTO. In the image, the subject is still from the collar down and only moves their neck and face to flip their hair. The photo was taken very close to the subject and dead on, straight ahead. The photo is strengthened by the negative space in the background, which highlights the subject. The pattern of the subject's flannel, the texture of the subject's hair and beads, and the pop of color in the red shirt all add interest to the subject and their movement.
